Peeple – App Stirs Justifiable Backlash

Imagine! An app that lets you rate people just like businesses or movies! With one to five stars, based on how good of a person they are, and you can’t take negative reviews of yourself down. What could go wrong? The app Peeple has stirred a strong backlash; the concept is wrong on so many levels it’s hard to know where to begin. Rating people on their “goodness” opens up a whole host of negative consequences, as Cnet news explains:

 

Under pressure, the founders of Peeple, while justifying the concept as a possitivity app (a ridiculous defense), have removed it while they try to figure out how to make it more palatable. This is an app that should just not exist. At all. Here’s to hoping it never does.
